Effective October 28, 2026
This policy covers the website allenjblodgett.com, run by Allen J. Blodgett ("I", "me"). It explains what the site records when you visit and download from it. The apps I publish have their own privacy policies, linked from each app's page. Those policies cover what the apps themselves do.
The short version
- When you view an app page or a blog post, the site logs the visit. When you download a file from the store, it logs the download. Each record includes your IP address and the approximate location that IP address points to.
- To find that location, the site sends your IP address to a third-party lookup service, ipwho.is.
- I use these records to see how many people visit and download, and roughly where they are. I don't sell or share them, and I don't use them for advertising.
- The site also uses Google Analytics, except on the app privacy and terms pages under /apps/.
What the site records
Store downloads
Each time you download a file from the store, the site records:
- which app and file you downloaded, and its version
- the date and time
- your IP address
- your approximate location, based on your IP address: city, region and country
- the page that linked you to the download, if your browser sends one. The site keeps only the site and page, and drops anything after a "?" in the address.
- a visitor code that counts repeat downloads from the same visitor without storing who you are. It's a one-way scrambled code (a salted hash) made from your IP address and browser type.
Page views
Each time you view an app's store page or a blog post, the site records the same kinds of information: the page, the date and time, your IP address, your approximate location, the page that linked you there, and a visitor code. Repeat views of the same page by the same visitor within 30 minutes count only once.
The site doesn't record page views from search engines and other automated tools, or from me while I'm signed in to manage the site.
What the site does not record
The site doesn't record your name or email address when you view pages or download files, and it doesn't place its own cookies to track you. A location based on an IP address is approximate. It's often only the city of your internet provider, not where you are.
ipwho.is
To find a location, the site sends your IP address to ipwho.is, a third-party lookup service. The site sends only the IP address, over an encrypted connection, and gets back the city, region and country. ipwho.is handles that request under its own privacy policy. IP addresses from private networks are never sent.
Google Analytics
The site uses Google Analytics to measure traffic, except on the app privacy and terms pages under /apps/. Google Analytics sets cookies and collects information about your visit under Google's privacy policy. You can opt out with Google's browser add-on.
How the records are used
I use these records only to:
- count visits and downloads
- see which pages and apps people are interested in
- see roughly where visitors come from, and which sites send them
- spot abuse, such as automated download floods
Only I can see them, in the site's private admin area. I don't sell them, share them with advertisers, or combine them with other information to identify you.
How long the records are kept
Records are kept until I delete them.
Your choices
If you'd like me to delete records about you, email me at helloiam@allenjblodgett.com and include the IP address you used. I'll delete any records that match it.
Changes
If this policy changes, I'll update it here and change the effective date at the top.
