Effective October 14, 2026
These terms apply when you download, install or use oCIS Gallery. They are an agreement between you and Allen J. Blodgett ("we", "us"). By using oCIS Gallery, you agree to them. If you don't agree, don't use it.
1. What oCIS Gallery is
oCIS Gallery is a photo and video gallery for ownCloud Infinite Scale (oCIS). It has three parts:
- The web app: an extension you install on an oCIS server.
- The thumbnail generator: scripts you install on that server, or next to it, to index your gallery folders and create thumbnails.
- The client apps: apps for iPhone, iPad and Apple TV, and any future client apps, which connect to an oCIS server.
oCIS Gallery is self-hosted. We do not run a service for it, host your files or hold your account. The client apps connect to an oCIS server that you run, or that someone you trust runs for you.
2. Licenses
- The web app and thumbnail generator are licensed under the Apache License, Version 2.0. A copy is included in the download. Where that license and these terms differ, the license governs your rights to the software, and these terms cover everything else.
- The client apps are licensed to you, not sold, for personal use on devices you own or control. On the App Store, Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement applies alongside these terms. On Google Play, Google Play's terms apply alongside these terms.
3. Price and in-app purchases
oCIS Gallery is free to download and use. Some features may in future need a one-time purchase or a subscription. Anything that costs money will be clearly marked before you pay, and we will not start charging for a feature you have already been given for free.
- What you pay for is the software, not hosting, storage or access to any server. A purchase doesn't give you an oCIS server or any space on one.
- Purchases in the client apps go through the App Store or Google Play. Apple or Google handles payment, billing, subscription renewals, cancellations and refunds under its own terms. We never see your payment details.
- Subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel them in your App Store or Google Play account settings. Cancelling stops the next renewal; you keep access until the end of the period you have paid for.
- Purchases are tied to your App Store or Google Play account, not your oCIS account. You can restore them on another device signed in to the same store account. They don't move between Apple and Google.
4. Your server, your responsibility
Because you choose and control the server, you are responsible for:
- Running and securing it, including updates, HTTPS, accounts and access.
- Backing up your data. The web app and thumbnail generator write to your
server: gallery settings, an index, thumbnails, playable video copies and
watch progress, all in a
.galleryfolder in your personal space. They also change tags and favorites when you ask them to. Back up your server before installing or upgrading. - Its resources. The thumbnail generator uses CPU, memory, disk and network on your server. Its defaults are designed to be gentle, but you are responsible for how you configure and schedule it.
- Your credentials. App tokens and sign-in tokens work like passwords. Keep them private, and revoke any token you no longer use or that may have been exposed.
- Your content. You must have the right to store, view and share the photos and videos on your server. We don't see, review or control that content.
If someone else runs the server, their terms and policies also apply to your use of it.
5. Installing with an AI assistant
We publish prompts for installing oCIS Gallery with the help of an AI assistant. They are a convenience, not a managed service. An AI assistant can make mistakes. Read each command before you allow it, keep your tokens out of the chat, and don't run anything you don't understand on a server that holds data you care about. You are responsible for the changes made to your systems.
6. Acceptable use
Don't use oCIS Gallery to:
- break the law, or infringe anyone's privacy or intellectual property;
- reach servers or accounts you are not authorized to use; or
- interfere with servers, networks or services you don't control.
7. Not affiliated with ownCloud
oCIS Gallery is an independent project. It is not made, endorsed or supported by ownCloud or its owners. "ownCloud", "oCIS" and "Infinite Scale" are trademarks of their respective owners and are used here only to describe what oCIS Gallery works with. An oCIS update may change behavior that oCIS Gallery depends on, and we can't promise compatibility with every oCIS version.
8. Updates and availability
We may update, change or stop offering any part of oCIS Gallery at any time. Because it runs on your server and devices, a version you have already installed keeps working until oCIS or your devices change in a way that affects it.
9. No warranty
oCIS Gallery is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied. This includes warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, and that it will be error-free or uninterrupted, or will not lose data. Some places don't allow these warranties to be excluded. There, they are limited to the shortest period the law allows.
10. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, photos, videos, profits or use, arising from oCIS Gallery or these terms, even if we were told such loss was possible. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us for oCIS Gallery in the 12 months before the claim, or US $10. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
11. App Store terms
If you got a client app from Apple's App Store:
- These terms are between you and us, not Apple. Apple is not responsible for the app or its content.
- Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the app.
- If the app fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple may refund the purchase price, if any. To the extent the law allows, Apple has no other warranty obligation for the app.
- Apple is not responsible for any claims relating to the app, including product liability claims, claims that it fails to meet legal or regulatory requirements, and consumer protection or privacy claims.
- Apple is not responsible for investigating, defending or settling any claim that the app infringes a third party's intellectual property.
- You confirm that you are not located in a country subject to a US Government embargo, or designated as a "terrorist supporting" country, and that you are not on any US Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
- Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you.
12. Privacy
How oCIS Gallery handles data is described in our Privacy Policy. In short: we don't collect it.
13. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Utah, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Where the law of the country you live in gives you consumer rights that can't be waived, nothing here takes them away.
14. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. We will change the effective date above when we do. If you keep using oCIS Gallery after an update, the updated terms apply.
